At SPACE we have a particular interest in how coaching-based techniques can be used to help anyone studying for an assessment or exam of any kind.
It was this interest which led Steve to publish his book, The Sensible Study Toolkit, in 2019 as a means of helping students of any age – from teenagers and young adults working their way through formal education, to established professionals preparing for the next phase of their career.
The book makes no assumptions about who you are or what sort of assessment or exam you are preparing for and is likely to be of use to all learners from GCSE level through to those studying for professional qualifications. It's based around the GRAMMAR model, and covers:
Goal setting
Rewards and motivations
Action planning
Monitoring progress
Managing relationships
Assurance
Realisation
Each section is based around one or more practical exercises to help the reader understand their own motivations, preferences and strengths in order for them to be clear and confident in why they are studying (with 'internal motivators' proven to be far stronger and more resilient than 'external motivators') and what is likely to work best for them in terms of being as successful as they can be - whatever that is.
